Carlos Mariani (born July 13, 1953) is a Minnesota politician and a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives representing District 65B, which includes portions of the city of Saint Paul in Ramsey County, which is part of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. A Democrat, he also works in non-profit management as program director for the Minnesota Council of Churches, and is executive director of the Minnesota Minority Education Partnership.[1][2]
Mariani was first elected to the House in 1990, and has been re-elected every two years since then. He currently serves as the DFL Lead on the Education Reform Committee, and is also a member of the Education Finance and the Public Safety and Crime Prevention Policy and Finance committees. He was chair of the K-12 Education Policy and Oversight Committee from 2007–2010,[3] and was an assistant majority leader during the 1995-1996 biennium.[1]
Mariani graduated from Macalester College in Saint Paul with a B.A., and later attended the Humphrey Institute at the University of Minnesota, where he was a Mondale Policy Fellow, and the University of Minnesota Law School.[1]
