Carla Accardi (born October 9, 1924 in Trapani) is an Italian painter who contributed significantly to the acceptance of abstract art in Italy. In 1947, she co-founded the Forma 1 Marxist-inspired art movement[1] with Ugo Attardi, Pietro Consagra, Piero Dorazio, Mino Guerrini, Achille Perilli, Antonio Sanfilippo and Giulio Turcato. She first exhibited in the United States in 2001 at MoMA PS1.[2]
