Camp Billings is a co-ed, non-denominational summer camp in Fairlee, Vermont, United States. Accredited by the American Camp Association,[2] it was established in 1906. In 2006, it was listed as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places.[1]
Camp Billings has many activities, called "program areas," for all campers to enjoy; some include sailing, backpacking, boating, canoeing, windsurfing, funning lessons, snorkeling, diving, swim team, water sports, playaking, many different sports, tennis, photography, painting, arts and crafts, archery, waterskiing, teen club, junior program, fishing, Tae Kwon Do, and drama.
There are 4 sessions every summer at Camp Billings, each consisting of 2 weeks. The 4th of July is during the first session, and a special event (varying each year) complete with fireworks is held. During 2nd session Camp Billings has a singing competition called "Billings Idol", during 3rd session Camp Billings puts on a musical, and during 4th session Camp Billings has a 3 day long country fair in which highly competitive games are held between multiple teams.
Campers at Billings are mainly from the northeastern states of the U.S., with a particularly large contingency from Burlington, VT and Summit, NJ. There are also many French Canadian campers. There are also a wide range of foreign campers and staff, including people from Australia, England, France, Germany and Wales. Often called "home away from home" by most, this camp is so well liked that many campers will apply to become camp counselors once they are too old to attend as a camper. However, over the past few years it has become much more competitive for prospective counselors.
Famous alumni include Michael Jackson and Barry Manilow.
