Cal MacAninch (born 24 November 1963) is a Scottish actor,[1] best known for portraying the character of DI John Keenan in police drama Holby Blue[1] on BBC 1 during 2007-8.
Macaninch went on to play Rowan Collins in Series 4 of the ITV drama series Wild at Heart.[1][2] He returned to the show for its fifth series as a main cast member. He also played Tauren, a sorcerer in the BBC television series Merlin in the episode To Kill the King. Cal also starred in the 2001 BBC mini series "The Best of Both Worlds" with Alice Evans. He played a valet, Andrew Lang, in the second series of Downton Abbey.[3]
Cal once lent his support as a volunteer on a Sense holiday, working with deafblind people.
He and his wife, the actress Shauna Macdonald,[1] have two daughters, Jesi-Lilas and Ava-Red Amahle[2] ("Amahle" means "beautiful" in Zulu).[2]
He is a keen marathon runner.[1]
