CKVO
CKVO is an AM radio station in Clarenville, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, broadcasting at 710 kHz. Owned by Newcap Broadcasting, CKVO first went on the air in 1974. It is a major affiliate of VOCM, It has independent programming each weekday at: 710 VOCM Good Morning Show from 5:30am - 9:00am, hosted by Leanne Sharpe, Midday's from 11:30am – 1:00pm, hosted by Leanne Sharpe, Afternoon Drive 4:00pm – 5:30pm, hosted by Aiden Hibbs, and Homestyle hosted by Aiden Hibbs Monday through Thursday 6:00pm – 8:00pm. Homestyle is also carried by the VOCM Network excluding 590 VOCM. The rest of CKVO's programming is simulcast from 590 VOCM with independent commercials.
History
Colonial Broadcasting System Ltd. was awarded a license in 1974 for a new AM station at Clarenville operating on 710 kHz with 10,000 watts day and night. In 1975 CKVO opened as a semi-satellite of VOCM St. John's. Colonial filed an application for the establishment of studios at Clarenville, By 1995 CKVO broadcast 40 hours of local programming per week with the remainder of its schedule originating with VOCM St. John's. In 2000 Newcap Broadcasting Ltd. purchased CKVO and the other VOCM stations. On May 28, the CRTC renewed the licence of CKVO until August 31, 2016.
