C1000 is a Dutch supermarket chain. Founded in 1981, as of the end of 2011 the chain had 419 stores and employed 32,000 people. Its market share was 13.2% and growing.
The supermarket chain operates in a rather unique manner for a supermarket using the franchise system. C1000 focus for growth is primarily on trying to be the cheapest supermarket.
C1000 often finds itself in competition with Albert Heijn the largest Dutch supermarket chain. C1000's early marketing campaigns were largely about emphasising Albert Heijn's bad points. Until 2008, C1000's parent company Schuitema was owned by Royal Ahold for 73%, Albert-Heijn's parent company.

In 2008 Ahold sold its shares to CVC private capital. CVC has now has all the shares and as of the 11 September 2009, Schuitema was no longer listed on the stockindex AEX.
Not a week later on 18 September 2009, supermarketcompany Jumbo (supermarket) did a bid on Super de Boer. The intention was that Schuitema was buying Super de Boer from the French Groupe Casino.
First Schuitema was getting revenge to buying it with an other supermarketgroup Sperwer, the home of the Dutch Plus formula. They almost did a bid, but on 5 October 2009 Schuitema make the transfer to no one else then Jumbo (supermarket). Sperwer get an alliance with Schuitema mother Ahold. But the rivalising bid from Jumbo/Schuitema was better. The Groupe Casino 54% owner from Super de Boer give green light to the bidders. Jumbo buys it for 553 million euro. On 7 December 2009 the NMa the competition regulator from the Netherlands. Was giving here green light. On 8 December 2009 the shareholders from Super de Boer were also giving here green light.
the transaction was closed on 18 December 2009.
In September 2011 CVC announced that they want to sell the C1000-organisation. CVC received biddings from several groups; Jumbo Supermarkten, Sligro Food Group, Edeka and Sperwer Group. CVC wants to close deal before the end of 2011. On November 23rd, 2011 it was announced that Jumbo will take over all C1000 stores. Because of this Jumbo becomes the second supermarket chain in the Netherlands. But this will not mean that the C1000 stores will disappear, many of them will continue with the name.
