Byron Grote

Byron E. Grote (born 1948 [1][2]) is currently an Executive Member of BP. He has been with the company since 1987 following their acquisition of Standard Oil of Ohio where he had worked since 1979. He took the position of Executive member in 2002.

He received an M.S. (1967) and Ph.D (1981) in Quantitative Analysis from Cornell University, both from Cornell's S.C. Johnson Graduate School of Management.[3]

Grote's annual salary from BP is $1,340,000. In 2008 his bonus from BP was $1,742,000.[4]

Career

Grote joined Standard Oil of Ohio in 1979. He had management responsibilities in international oil supply planning, logistics and crude oil trading.[5]

In 1985, he was made director of planning for Kennecott, the mining subsidiary of Standard Oil. In 1986 he was appointed vice-president of retail sales.[5]

After BP acquired the Standard Oil minority, he was appointed in 1988 as commercial-vice president for the company's Alaskan production activities. He moved to London soon after to become commercial general manager for BP Exploration.[5]

In 1992 he became group treasurer and chief executive officer of BP Finance, before moving to Colombia as regional chief executive. In 1995 he returned to London to become deputy chief executive officer of BP Exploration.[5]

In 1999, after the merger of BP and Amoco, he was executive vice-president for Exploration and Production.[5]

In 2002 he was appointed to the post of chief officer for BP.[6]
