Buliisa is a town in Western Uganda. It is the 'main town' of Buliisa District and the district headquarters are located there. The district is named after the town.

Buliisa is located approximately 80 kilometres (50 mi), by road, northwest of Masindi, the largest town in the sub-region.[1] The coordinates of the town are: 02 10 30N, 31 24 00E (Latitude:2.1750; Longitude:31.4000).
Buliisa is a town on the northeastern shores of Lake Albert. The town has gained prominence during the 2000s because of the large hydrocarbon deposits which have been discovered underground in the district and elsewhere in the Bunyoro sub-region.[2][3]
In 2008, the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), estimated the population of Buliisa at 26,100.[4] In 2011, UBOS estimated the mid-year population of Buliisa at 28,100.[5]
