Budikovany (Hungarian: Bugyik-fala) is a village and municipality in the Rimavská Sobota District of the Banská Bystrica Region of southern Slovakia. Part of the historic Gömör-Kishont region of the Kingdom of Hungary.
In historical records the village already existed before the Mongol devastations (1241/42) as a holding of name "Both" (sometimes spelled "Bogy" or "Bud") Bot ou Both (famille) in 1285. The village itself was first mentioned in 1301, the name Budik (meaning "awaken") is a slavic name given during the Kingdom of Hungary period. It is transliterated Bugyik in Hungarian but has also been transcribed, Bvdik, Bwgyk, Bodik by Latin scribes. It was destroyed by the Turks in the 16th century. It at various times belonged to clan Balogh, Széchy, Koháry and Uzov Lords and in the 18th century to the Muráň dominium. The town is situated on the north-east shore of Teplý Vrch (warm hill) lake where the Blh (rieka) (Hungarian: Balogh River) and Drienok Creek meet. It is situated near the ruins of 3 medieval castles. Drieňok (hrad), Drienčany/Derencsény, and Blh (hrad). A little further is another ruin Balogrussó shown below .
Today is a small farming village & popular place for visitors and outdoors enthusiasts.
