Buddam, India

Buddam (or Buddham) is a village in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, India. The name Buddam historically emerged from Bouddha Aramam (literally Buddhists Stayed Here In Ancient Times), the town's original name. Buddam's population is 1686. The archeological department located many relics of Buddhism in this village and a few of them are preserved in Amaravati and Hyderabad.

The major occupation of this village is agriculture and fish/prawn culture in some extent of land.

Religion

Hinduism is the main religion. The main castes are Yadava Kshatriya, kshatriya or Rajus, Vysya's and Gowda's. Christianity, Rajaka's, Nayabrahmana's, is also prevalent.
The village is known for its temple to Kodhandarama Swamy in Ramalayam. Other temples include a temple to Anjaneya Swamy in Hanuman Temple, Nagendra swamy in Subramanya swamy Temple and that of village deity, Pallalamma Talli is Grama Devatha, Gudarankamma Talli is Vuppala vari Eelavelpu. One School from 1st Class to 5th Class, One Library is available in this village.

Politics

This village is in the Karlapalem Mandal which is in the Bapatla Taluk. It plays a key role in electing the member for the Bapatla constituency of the Lok Sabha.telugudesam and as well as congress the major people supporting.

Sri Ramakrishna Cultural Association, a youth organisation was founded in 1972. It has been working in the fields of health, agriculture, education and sports. It helped in increasing the literacy rate in the area.
