History

Bruce was named for E.L Bruce, who was known to have pick many a sweet potato in the summer fields of Vardaman.

Education

The Town of Bruce is served by the Calhoun County School District.

The city is proud of its athletics; especially the Bruce Trojan High School football team, which was named 2A State Champions in 1996.

There are three public schools in the Calhoun County School District: Bruce, Calhoun City, and Vardaman; and one private school, Calhoun Academy. Bruce is a level 5 High School, which is the highest academic ranking in Mississippi. Calhoun City is slightly smaller than Bruce High School. Vardaman and Calhoun City High are both district 1A schools, and Bruce High is a district 2A school.
