The Brighton Cougars is an English basketball club from the city of Brighton. Established in 1989, the community-orientated club announced on June 17, 2007 that it would launch a franchise in the professional British Basketball League [1]. The club was due to start competing in Britain's top-tier league in the 2008-09 season, and would have occupied the spot vacated by Brighton's former professional basketball franchise the Brighton Bears, which folded in 2006. However, the Cougars' application to become a franchise in The BBL was denied and the open slot handed to Worthing Thunder, a local rival team.[1]
