Brian Gartland (born November 4, 1986 in Dublin, Ireland) is an Irish footballer who is currently playing in Northern Ireland for IFA Premiership club Portadown. Gartland plays as a central defender.
Gartland began his senior career at Bray Wanderers and was one of Bray's promising young players and was voted Bray Wanderers' Under-21 player of the Year for 2006. He had yet to make a competitive first team appearance for Bray at this stage (made his debut for Bray first team in a friendly against Livingston Fc from Scotland in July 2006) and in February 2007 he had interest coming from Shelbourne. He took the opportunity to join Shels and he signed for the Tolka Park side on February 27, 2007.[1] Brian made his debut for Shelbourne on March 9, 2007 in a league fixture against Kildare County at Tolka Park, scoring on his debut with the first of Shelbourne's goals in a 2-2 draw.[2] Gartland's battling demeanor saw him become a regular in the Shelbourne first team during the first half of the 2007 season until a raft of mid-season signings saw him pushed down the pecking order at the Tolka Park club. Gartland was released by Shelbourne at the end of the 2007 season.[3] Gartland made 18 league and cup appearances and scored one goal during the 2007 Season for Shelbourne FC.
Gartland did not have to wait long to find a new club as he was snapped up by Monaghan United on December 18, 2007.[4] He immediately cemented a starting XI place for Monaghan and would make 94 league and cup appearances, scoring 6 goals for the club. Following Monaghan's narrow miss on promotion to the League of Ireland Premier Division in 2010, Gartland joined Portadown FC in January 2011 as one of four new signings by the club during the January transfer window.
