Brendan Bottcher (born December 19, 1991 in Sherwood Park, Alberta), nicknamed "The Bottcher Express", is a Canadian curler from Edmonton. He has had several successes during his junior career; the most notable being the 2010 Alberta Junior men's champion. He was also the 2007 Alberta Juvenile Runner Up.[1]
Brendan currently skips his own team out of the Saville Sports Centre in Edmonton, consisting of third Brad Thiessen, second Landon Bucholz, and lead Bryce Bucholz. They are led by their coach Bernie Panich. They had numerous successes in their 2009-2010 season winning 4 junior bonspiels as well as being a runner-up in another. In the Saville Men's Super-League, they posted a .500 record. In a few exhibition games throughout the season, they played Olympic caliber teams such as Kevin Martin and Thomas Ulsrud just prior to the 2010 Winter Olympics. They also won the Alberta Junior Provincials beating their seasonal rival Curtis Bale 6-4 in the final.[2] At Junior Nationals in Sorel-Tracy they had mixed success going 6-6.[3] At the 2011 Alberta Junior Provincials they lost the semi-final to Scott Smith of Calgary. [4] At the end of the 2011 season, third Brad Thiessen aged out of junior competition. Brendan and the team added long time Alberta Junior competitor Evan Asmussen to the lineup prior to the 2011/2012 season.
