Borough, Block and Lot

In New York City, each address is also identified by a Borough, Block, and Lot (BBL).[1]

Identifying a property's BBL

To convert between address and BBL, use this tool (provided by ACRIS, the Automated City Register Information System, of the Office of the City Register, part of the NYC Department of Finance.)

Composition

A BBL consists of three numbers separated by slashes.

The first number identifies what borough the property is in.

1 = Manhattan
2 = Bronx
3 = Brooklyn
4 = Queens
5 = Staten Island

The Block number is second and can be up to 5 digits.

The Lot number is last and can be up to 4 digits.

An example for a property in Queens would be: 4/99999/99
