Borkum Riffgat (also known as OWP Riffgat) is a planned offshore wind farm being constructed 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) to the north-west of the German island of Borkum. The wind turbines will be built across an area of 6 square kilometres (2.3 sq mi). It will consist of 44 turbines with a total capacity of 220 megawatt (MW), and is expected to generate enough electricity for 112,000 households. The project will entail investment of around €480 million (US$616 million) and construction work is likely to be completed in 2012.[1][2]

Early 2011, the Dutch government stated to be unsure whether the area is German territory or not and therefore the licenses the German government has given to project owner EWE would be invalid. Until the border dispute has been sorted out, construction work may be delayed. [3]
