Bochali (Greek: Μποχάλη) is a village in the southern part of the island of Zakynthos. It is part of the municipal unit of Zakynthos (city). In 2001 its population was 700 for the village, and 889 for the municipal district, including the villages Akrotiri and Kydoni.

About Bochali

Bochali is situated on the east-central part of the island and is in the southernmost part of the Vrachiona mountains. The area are made up of farmlands while forests dominates the northeast.

History

Bochali was ruled by the Venetians until the Napolenic Wars when it was controlled and ruled by the French until the British invasion near the end, the Russians and the Ottoman Turks also ruled during the wars, though the Septinsular Republic was autonomous. Keri and the rest of the Ionian Islands formed a part of the United States of the Ionian Islands until 1864 which marked the end of the non-Greek rule, it finally ceded to Greece.

After World War II and the Greek Civil War, it was partially rebuilt, almost every building in the villages were completely destroyed in the 1953 Ionian Earthquake, afterwards, the village were rebuilt by the late-1950s and 1960 to rebuilt everything and at the time connected with asphalt. More pavement was accessed in the late 20th century. Electricity, radio and automobiles were introduced in the mid-20th century, television in the late-20th century and computer and internet at the turn of the millennium. Its population are growing and grew more in a ten year period between 1991 and 2001.

Panorama

Bochali offers a view the northeastern, the eastern and the western parts of the island including Vrachiona. The only part of Kefalonia that can be seen is Mount Ainos, the view is mainly blocked. A part of the panoramic view of the mainland are blocked and the furthermost parts can be seen during clear and hazeless days.

Bochali has a school, a gymnasium (middle school), lyceum (secondary school), a church, a few restaurants and taverns, a gas station and a square (plateia).
