Boštanj is a settlement the right bank of the Sava River in the Municipality of Sevnica in central Slovenia. The area is part of the historical region of Lower Carniola. The municipality is now included in the Lower Sava statistical region.[2]
The parish church in the village is dedicated to the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (Slovene: Povišanje svetega Križa). It is a three-aisled basilica built in 1853 in a Neo-Romanesque style on the site of a building first mentioned in written documents dating to the 15th century.[3]
A new run-of-the-river hydroelectric power plant on the Sava was built in the settlement in 2006. It has an average yearly capacity of 115 GWh corresponding to roughly 1% of current electricity production in Slovenia.[4]
