Blue Note Jazz Club

The Blue Note is a jazz club and restaurant located at 131 West 3rd Street in Greenwich Village, New York City.[1] Opened in 1981 by owner and founder Danny Bensusan, the club is now considered one of the world's most famous jazz venues.[2] The club's performance schedule features shows every evening at 8:00pm and 10:30pm, a Sunday jazz brunch with performances at 12:30pm and 2:30pm, and a Late Night Groove Series with performances at 12:30am on Saturday and Sunday mornings. In addition to its main New York City branch, the club also currently maintains locations in Tokyo and Nagoya, Japan; and Milan, Italy. Previous locations included Osaka and Fukuoka, Japan; Seoul, South Korea; and Las Vegas, Nevada.

The club is not affiliated with the Blue Note Records label.

Half Note Records

Half Note Records is the Blue Note's live record label. Numerous musicians have recorded live albums at the Blue Note and released them on this label, including James Carter, Avishai Cohen, Elvin Jones, Odean Pope, Charles Tolliver, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Kenny Werner, and others. Since its founding in 1998, the label has also expanded its scope to include studio releases, including McCoy Tyner's 2008 album Guitars and Kenny Werner's 2010 release No Beginning, No End.

Many of the label's albums have garnered critical acclaim. Paquito D'Rivera's album Live from the Blue Note won a Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album in 2001, and several other albums have received Grammy nominations, including Gil Goldstein's Under Rousseau's Moon; Conrad Herwig's The Latin Side of Wayne Shorter and Another Kind of Blue: The Latin Side of Miles Davis, and the Omar Sosa Sextet's Across the Divide: A Tale of Rhythm & Ancestry.[4]

Blue Note Jazz Festival

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of its founding, the Blue Note is presenting the inaugural Blue Note Jazz Festival in June 2011. This month-long event will feature performances at the Blue Note and numerous other venues across New York City by artists who have been integral parts of the club's history, including Chris Botti, Dave Brubeck, McCoy Tyner, Nancy Wilson, and many others.[6]
