Birsinghpur (also spelt Birsingpur) is a town, a Nagar Palika and tehshil in Umaria District in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India and the city where spiritual leader of New Age Vivek ji was born.[1]

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Pali ( Birsinghpur ) had a population of 120868. Males constitute 51.77% of the population and females 48.23%

Etymology

Pali town is also named as Birsinghpur in the name of rewa "MAHARAJA VEERSINGH JOODEO" in 19th century at time when BNR (Bengal-Nagpur RLY) traffic started between bilaspur-katni section in feb-march year 1891.

Geography

Birsinghpur is a very big town and tehseel & thana of 256 villages, city area is 39km in East, 9 km. is west 32km north and 28km. south Birsinghpur is situated on the katni-Shahdol road (NH78), at a distance of about 80 km from katni and 40 km from Shahdol. one Another road goes from Birsinghpur to Mandla via Dindori at a distance of about 40 km. . Another road goes from Birsinghpur to reva via Bandhavgare forest from 2008. Birsinghpur is also a railway station on Katni-Bilaspur section of S E C Railway, Birsinghpur has a big power plant from state which is supplying electricity to Madhya pradesh and another state power plant known as S.G.T.P.S

Prakash Nagar

The Town has a small twin town known as Prakash Nagar(City of lights). It's the site for a 1340MW power plant known as Sanjay Gandhi Thermal Power Station [1](SGTPS). Prakashnagar also has a small Birsinghpur hydroelectric power plant(20MW). The Dam is built on Johila River which is a tributary of the son river. The lake formed due to this DAM makes this place really fascinating.

This area in Madhya Pradesh is blessed with lush green forests. Wild animals are found throughout the area due to the proximity to Bandhavgarh National Park.

Culture

It is famous for durga temple. Near the railway station there is a temple, enshrining Birasini Devi. By popular belief she is Goddess durga, in veeraashan known as Birasini Devi. Many remains of old jain idols kept here in some Hindu temples. The annual fairs are held both in October and March, on the occasion of Navaratri, near the temple of Goddess Birsingpur [3] pali is guah city

Economy

Sanjay Gandhi Thermal Power Station (4x210+500MW) & Birsinghpur hydel power plant(20 MW) is situated near Johila river in Birsinghpur. It is run by Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company Limited(MPPGCL). There are huge coal reserves in the vicinity.

Health

There is a 30 bed govt hospital in Birsinghpur. Nearest airport is Jabalpur. There is a Govt Degree College in Birsighpur.
