Willie Nelson Biodiesel is the name of an American company started by popular songwriter Willie Nelson.[1] The company produces a biodiesel fuel called BioWillie made of soybean and other vegetable oils that can be used in modern diesel engines instead of regular fuel without vehicle modifications.
Biodiesel is a renewable fuel reducing the need to import foreign oil. Nelson has said, "There is really no need going around starting wars over oil. We have it here at home. We have the necessary product, the farmers can grow it."[2]
Earth Biodiesel Inc., a publicly traded company (OTCBB: EBOF), is the exclusive distributor of BioWillie. As of 12 June 2006, Willie Hugh Nelson reported the ownership of 6,537,500 shares of Earth Biodiesel Inc. to the Securities and Exchange Commission. By June 2006, there were 22 outlets in six states (per the BioWillie website), most of which (16) were located in Texas, primarily near Dallas. As of April 2007, numerous reports suggest some outlets selling BioWillie have ceased doing so.
