Binärpilot addresses the issue of music piracy in a statement published in a thread on his forum. Mainstream music has become, he says, a collection of "soulless, bland and branded acts spewing their sixth-grade level lyrics through every major media outlet".[2] In his eyes, the record companies will do anything to make more money, regardless of who they hurt. He addresses the argument that artists lose money because of piracy in this statement: "It's not hurting the artists, it's hurting the industry behind the artists. And that is, in my opinion, the beauty of it; Contrary to what they want you to believe, piracy is (if anything) saving music, because it's bringing a corrupt and exploitative machine down to its knees." Binärpilot has been praised by pirates and opponents of the music industry because of his staunchly anti-corporate stance.
The artist has had his work stolen by cover group Fitts for Fight. Their song Monstermachine was uncovered to be Binarpilot's Otosclerosis with added vulgar lyrics.[3] The band had also stolen music from 8 Bit Weapon and other artists. In response, the by:Larm festival organizers replaced Fitts with Binärpilot.[4]
To date, Binärpilot has released thirteen download-only albums and EPs. The listed albums are only his four main releases, starting with Defrag (2005) and culminating with Nordland (2010).
His 2010 release, Nordland was the first release available as a hard copy, funded entirety by donations.[5] Alongside the physical album, which was made available through CD Baby, Nordland was also released as a free digital download.[6] The album also contains a track which is a tribute to the internet-based file sharer aXXo.[7]
