Geography

Betamcherla sits at an average elevation of 400 meters (1315 feet). This high elevation largely protects the town against rain damage.

The town is surrounded by lands rich in limestone, dolomite deposits, and flooring stones. These resources played a major role in Betamcherlas's economic development.

Townscape

Economy

The town was developed by immigrant families from the northern areas of Andhra Pradesh. In particular, the Reddy families took a major role in developing the town into a business centre.

This town is the highest revenue generator for the electrical department in Kurnool District, as approximately 40-50 small-scale industries line each outgoing road.

Businesses tend to be seasonal and weather-dependent. Mining, for example, must stop when it rains.

Agriculture

Agriculture is concentrated in the village areas surrounding betamcherla, including Gootypalli, Kottala, Malkapuram, and Kotta Palle. Crops include rice, wheat, vegetables, flowers, and green grass.

Stone

Raw material for flooring stones comes from mining areas surrounding the town. Around 400-500 small-scale industries mold this material into polished slabs.

Soap stone is milled into Steatite powder, which is used for enhancing the brightness of drafting paper.

Banks

Andhra Bank, Andhra Pragathi Bank and SBI are located in the town
