Bengkayang Regency

Bengkayang is a regency ("kabupaten") in West Kalimantan province, Indonesia (on the island of Borneo). Before the expansion it was a part of Sambas County. After the expansion Sambas County was divided into three separate autonomous counties, that is, Sambas County, Bengkayang County, and Singkawang City. The population of Bengkayang was 211 883 as of 2006.[1]

Bengkayang is located in northern West Kalimantan, sharing a border with Sarawak in Malaysia. With good arable land and favourable relief, the agricultural sector is the main economic source.[2] Bengkayang is also rich in natural resources.

Economically the county is still lagging, but it is hoped that the new automony will catalyze development.

A water processing plant has been developed, so the population enjoys access to clean water.
