It is situated to the east of St Albans in Hertfordshire and is within access of the city centre. In 2003 it achieved a Language College status and in 2007, having been identified as a High Performing Specialist School, Beaumont was then able to obtain a second specialism as a Maths and Computing College. Uniform consists of a black blazer embroidered with the school crest on the chest pocket, a white shirt or blouse, and black trousers or a knee length skirt. Boys are required to wear ties, and all year-11 students have different ties and crests to those of the lower years. In the summer students are allowed Beaumont summer shirts in place of the blazer and tie.
Beaumont School has six form groups in each year using the letters of the word 'L E A R N S'. In September 2009, the school introduced a house system to run along side the form groups. Students were able to vote for the names of the Houses resulting in the following: Luther-King, Elgar, Austen, Redgrave, Newton and Seacole. Interform competitions between year group forms are encouraged and take place regularly; testing a variety of skills including sports competitions, science challenges and drama performances. This allows all pupils to demonstrate their different abilities.[2]
Beaumont offers a variety of both winter and summer sports. During the winter Football, Boys Rugby and Girls and Boys Hockey dominate the sporting scene within Beaumont. Within the district Beaumont have something of a rivalry between local Boys-school Verulam, Sandringham and St Albans Girls School, which often serve up interesting matches.
During the Summer, Athletics, Cricket and Tennis become the sports played at Beaumont. District Sports, the once-yearly Athletics competition is usually won by Beaumont, who field many Athletes in the many disciplines of Track and Field.
The school works in partnership with two neighbouring schools via a consortium, to enhance post-16 educational provision. This partnership is known as "BeauSandVer" and consists of Sandringham School, Verulam School and Beaumont School. Students travel between schools using the consortium bus service.
