Bayard is a city in Guthrie County, Iowa, United States. The population was 471 in the 2010 census, a decline from 536 in 2000 census.[2] It is part of the Des Moines–West Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area.

As of the census[4] of 2000, there were 536 people, 221 households, and 135 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,124.9 people per square mile (431.1/km²). There were 244 housing units at an average density of 512.1 per square mile (196.3/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.07% White, 0.19% Native American, 0.19% Asian, and 0.56% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.12% of the population.
There were 221 households out of which 26.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.4% were married couples living together, 9.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.5% were non-families. 35.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 23.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.29 and the average family size was 2.97.
In the city the population was spread out with 24.1% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 19.6% from 25 to 44, 19.4% from 45 to 64, and 29.3% who were 65 years of age or older.
