Recording for the album began in 1999 when Mo was signed to The Goldmind Inc.; two singles ("If You Wanna Dance" & "5 Minutes") were released the same year; both singles, however, failed to chart and were deleted from the album.
In 2000, Mo and The Goldmind Inc./Elektra Records, released "Ta Da" as another promotional buzz single. The song managed to peak at 95 on the Billboard Hot 100 and 21 on Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Nearly less than a month before Mo was scheduled to release her debut - which was set for a reported November 2000 release - Mo left the The Goldmind Inc. and was offered a new deal by Elektra Records.
In 2001, Mo signed to Wea Records (a former associative label with Elektra Records) and retooled her debut. The album was then scheduled for an early summer 2001 release. In early March of 2001, Mo released "Superwoman", featuring Fabolous, as the album's new official lead single. The song peaked at number 11 on Billboard Hot 100 and number 4 on Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, making it Mo's successful single to date.
The album was released on June 26, 2001 to mediocre reviews. Dan LeRoy of AllMusic gave the album 3/5 stars. He described Mo's voice and musical style in comparison towards Mary J. Blige.[1]
It was certified Gold by the RIAA months after the album's release.
Mo went on to release another single, "Gangsta", which failed to enter the Hot 100, and peaked at a disappointing 57 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
