Based Sky Black Death: Blue Lunar Night is a 2010 mixtape by hip-hop artist Noah23.[1] The album features new vocals by Noah23 over instrumentals by hip-hop production duo Blue Sky Black Death. This duo is composed of Kingston and Young God, who previously worked under the names Orphan and Rev.Left respectively. Orphan was the most prolific producer for Noah23's Plague Language collective from its late-1990s inception until 2005 when the two parted ways. Rev.Left also contributed production to several Plague Language tracks. The mixtape is therefore something of an 'unofficial' reunion.
The first part of the mixtape's title is derived from the use of Blue Sky Black Death beats, along with general inspiration drawn from Lil B the Based God. The second part of the title is a reference to the idea, based on contemporary study of the Mayan calendar, that a significant mystical event was to occur on February 10, 2011, which is Noah23's date of birth.[2]
The vocals on this album are either freestyled or spontaneously memorized; that is, composed and memorized 'on the spot' without written record (a process sometimes known as 'frozen freestyling').[3]
