BaseN is an international technology company, headquartered in Helsinki, Finland and operating around the globe, dedicated to large scale infrastructure monitoring and management. The company focuses on next-generation computing grid technology and operates by using Software as a Service, SaaS business model. BaseN offers a complete portfolio of software services that monitor, measure, analyze and forecast massive data flows in real time through tailored web based customer portals.
Besides the Helsinki headquarters additional offices are located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and in Atlanta, Georgia. BaseN was founded by Pasi Hurri (President and CEO) together with of network professionals who have been developing Internet and IP technologies for the last two decades, both in industry and service provider world.

BaseN developed its system for telecom networks and has then applied the same technology to clean tech space and can immediately make real time data available to millions of consumers, organizations and households in cost efficient way. The company has developed an advanced monitoring and reporting system which provides better opportunities to monitor and optimize energy consumption and environmental probes.
BaseN is one of the founders of the FennoGrid Association whose purpose is the sharing of information on grid and peer-to-peer research and the promotion of cooperation projects in these fields. BaseN is also a member of an international e-Science consortium EGEE. Enabling Grids for E-sciencE (EGEE) is the largest multi-disciplinary grid infrastructure in the world.
The BaseN Platform - built on a distributed computing grid which allows linear scalability, exceptionally high processing speeds, and very high resilience - provides customers of all sizes with an extraordinarily reliable and cost-effective operating environment capable of handling enormous amounts of data in real-time. It also provides new tools to secure and safeguard data. The components within the grid work together, but can function separately from each other and automatically take each other's roles.
Although the BaseN Platform was originally developed for IT network monitoring, the ability to integrate it with sensors and other measurement devices such as electric and gas meters opens up new possibilities in energy and environment measurement. The BaseN Platform is measuring an equivalent of more than 8 million smart meters every minute and making the data available in real time. BaseN is to be the foundation for the Smart Grid by connecting every point of energy consumption in real time.
The BaseN Platform interacts online with the existing company networks e.g. customer relationship management (CRM), billing system and trouble ticketing system and provides real-time alerting as well as fault reporting from all crucial resources. A central feature is that all the information is available through multiple terminals, such as PCs, laptops and mobile phones.
The benefits of BaseN Platform solutions are that it reduces operating costs, prevents breakdowns and congestions and enables faster issue resolution. Based on the next generation grid computing, the BaseN Platform is linear scalable and provides superior processing power. This enables the end-to-end, maximum granularity monitoring of large communication and infrastructure networks. Some example measurements are:
BaseN Energy Awareness Technologies (BEAT) is a technology that increases energy awareness among consumers and drives large scale energy saving across societies. By making real-time energy consumption data available to each individual consumer, they become aware of their consumption and are encouraged to save energy. The BEAT solution can be rolled out to millions of households and make detailed energy consumption data available on a large scale. This provides the consumer with the opportunity to directly compare the energy efficiency of electrical devices at home and adjust their energy consumption behavior.[1]
In 2009 BaseN was selected among the Sustainable Innovators 100 worldwide by Globe Forum.
In 2007, BaseN was listed 12th fastest growing technology company in Finland on the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Program.
In 2005, BaseN received the Deloitte "Rising Star" award for being the fastest growing Finnish technology company within three years.
