Founded as DZP Marketing Communications, Inc. in 2003 by John Barker (Entrepreneur and American advertising executive), the agency first specialized in strategy, creative development, and motion graphics design and production for marketers in the entertainment industry.[1] In 2005, the firm was named to Entrepreneur Magazine’s “HOT 100” list of new small businesses in America.[2] Key client acquisitions in the early years included Atkins Nutritionals, Inc.,[3] eDiets.com [4] and Hastens luxury beds of Sweden.[5] In 2008, the company was renamed Barker/DZP. Prior to founding Barker/DZP, John Barker (Entrepreneur and American advertising executive) worked as a senior executive with Grey Advertising, now a division of WPP. Previously, he had been Director of Advertising at Sony Music Entertainment, Inc. He began his career as a copywriter at Grey Entertainment where he helped launch and market television series such as Roseanne, thirtysomething, NYPD Blue and Twin Peaks for the ABC network. He is a graduate of Yale University, where he was the recipient of several writing awards, including a 1984 Academy of American Poets Prize.[15][16]
In 2006, Sandi Harari joined Barker/DZP as the Creative Director. Prior to joining the team, Sandi headed up her own design boutique[17] for 3 years where she worked for variety of clients and brands such as: Atlantic Records, Pantene, Clairol, Atlantic Records, Lions Gate Films, A&E, Viacom etc. Before heading off on her own, Sandi was a Senior Art Director at Grey Entertainment where she oversaw creative work for W Hotels, Bravo, Food Network, Uproar.com, Worth and the NYC Dept. of Sanitation. She also previously held positions at the pharma agency, NCI advertising, as well as Burston Marsteller where her main accounts were Unilever and Citibank.
