Banswada is a town and a mandal in the Nizamabad district in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India.[1] Banswada is the fifth biggest town in the district of Nizamabad. The Manjeera River flows in 3 km west of Banswada.

The name is derived from the ancient name, Mahisawada ("the ancient Indian epic, The Mahabarata. Part of the story takes place in Mahishapuram").

Banswada is situated on Hyderabad-Bodhan State Highway No. 6. The town is 168 km east of Karimnagar; 50 km west of Degloor (Maharastra); 68 km north of Basara; 50 km north of Nizamabad; and 167 km south of Hyderabad, the state capital of Andhra Pradesh. There is no train service to Banswada. The nearest railway stations are at Nizamabad, Bodhan and Kamareddy.
The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) operates bus services from Banswada to Adilabad, Hanumakonda, Hyderabad (MGBS), Kakinada and Warangal.[3]

Banswada is an assembly constituency in Andhra Pradesh. Pocharam Srinivas Reddy from the Telugu Desam Party was elected in the 2011 Assembly Elections as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), resigned for the cause of Separate State of Telangana and joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi party on 25th March, 2011. The Election Commission has re-conducted bypoll elections. This time Pocharam Srinivas Reddy has won the elections from the Telangana Rashtra Samithi party with a huge majority of nearly 50,000 votes on October 17, 2011.
