The Rajdhani Express is the fastest train on the Bangalore- Delhi sector. It is a daily service. It operates as train number 12429 from Bangalore City Junction to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station and as train number 12430 in the reverse direction - four days a week. On the other days, it operates as 12493 / 12494. It covers a distance of 2365 kilometres[1] in Bangalore City Junction to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station direction and it takes 33 hours 30 mins when operating as train number 12429 at an average speed of 72 km/h while its return journey as train number 12430 takes 33 hrs 50 mins to cover 2382 kilometers[2] at an average speed of 72 km/h thus making it the fastest train on the Bangalore - Delhi sector.

History

Originally introduced in 1992, this was a weekly train, then converted to bi-weekly, tri-weekly and then four times a week. In end of March 2010, service 12493/12494 was added to make it a daily service. This was the first Rajdhani where overnight service standard was changed - the distance being greater than what can be covered overnight at Indian Railway's speeds.

Coach composition

The Bangalore Rajdhani generally has a 1 First AC, 4 AC 2 tier, 2 pantry cars, 2 luggage cum generator coach & up to 10 AC 3 tier coaches taking the total up to 19 coaches. This Rajdhani has an infamous coach composition in terms of livery such that it is also called 'King of Mismatch'. Sometimes it has coaches of 7 different liveries.Expected to be the next Rajdhani in queue to get an LHB rake.
