The Rajdhani Express is the fastest train on the Bangalore- Delhi sector. It is a daily service. It operates as train number 12429 from Bangalore City Junction to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station and as train number 12430 in the reverse direction - four days a week. On the other days, it operates as 12493 / 12494. It covers a distance of 2365 kilometres[1] in Bangalore City Junction to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station direction and it takes 33 hours 30 mins when operating as train number 12429 at an average speed of 72 km/h while its return journey as train number 12430 takes 33 hrs 50 mins to cover 2382 kilometers[2] at an average speed of 72 km/h thus making it the fastest train on the Bangalore - Delhi sector.

Originally introduced in 1992, this was a weekly train, then converted to bi-weekly, tri-weekly and then four times a week. In end of March 2010, service 12493/12494 was added to make it a daily service. This was the first Rajdhani where overnight service standard was changed - the distance being greater than what can be covered overnight at Indian Railway's speeds.
The Bangalore Rajdhani generally has a 1 First AC, 4 AC 2 tier, 2 pantry cars, 2 luggage cum generator coach & up to 10 AC 3 tier coaches taking the total up to 19 coaches. This Rajdhani has an infamous coach composition in terms of livery such that it is also called 'King of Mismatch'.
