Bandcamp is an online music store, as well as a platform for artist promotion, that caters mainly for independent artists.[1] Artists on Bandcamp have a customizable microsite with the albums they upload. All tracks can be played for free on the website and some artists offer free music downloads. Bandcamp takes a 15% cut of sales made from their website (in addition to payment processing fees), which drops to 10% after selling more than $5000 worth.[2] Bandcamp is also free to join.

Bandcamp gained much attention in July 2010 when Amanda Palmer, Low Places and Bedhed gave up their record labels and started selling albums on Bandcamp, using Twitter for promotion[3][4].

Bandcamp saw a rise in popularity in 2011 when several Indie game Developers, published their game soundtracks on Bandcamp, including Bastion, Sanctum, Machinarium, Terraria, Plants vs. Zombies, Limbo, Super Meat Boy and Minecraft.
