High places (Ancient Israel)

The high places (Hebrew bamot plural במות, from singular bamah Hebrew: בָּמָה) denote a place of worship of the ancient Israelites. It also became used as a general term referring to any place used for idolatrous worship.[1][2] Adonai was worshiped on the high places by Isaac.[3] In Modern Hebrew, the word means "stage; platform".[4]
