Balar Khel

Balar Khel (بلڑ خیل) is the largest Khel in Usi Khel, Aba Khel subtribe of Mandanr Yusafzai inhabiting Swabi District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan.

History

Traditionally Pathan tribes live according to a strong family system in which the family system is named after the father's name. Balar Khel thus means the sons of Balar. Descendents of one individual preferably live together and the area is known after the name of their Khel. However in 16th century in Yusafzai tribe during the times of Malik Ahmed different Khels were divided by his deputy Sheikh Mali [1] and settlements thus included representatives from all Khels. The idea behind this division was to let all Khels have the share from all types of land. However this also led to the loss of brotherhood among members of the same Khel and development of rivalries on the basis of villages instead of ancestary.

Balar was the youngest of seven sons of Usi Khan. His other brothers also have Khel after their names like Taju Khel, Zakarya Khel, Tawus Khani, Bazaid Khel, Ayub Khel and Panj Pao.

Settlements

The settlements of Balar Khel are mainly in villages Zaida, Yaqubi, Yarhussain, Hund, Ambar, Lahor, Kaddi and Panj Pir in Swabi District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan.
