Originally known as Amazin' Adventures until 1998, the block aired in national first-run syndication in the United States from 1995 to 2000 primarily on FOX, UPN and WB affiliates. It also aired nationally for a time on the Sci-Fi Channel. Most of the animated television series featured on BKN featured third party programming from DiC Entertainment, Saban Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television. In 2000, the BKN name was later adopted as the company's corporate name, becoming BKN International AG, with its programming available for broadcast to various networks around the world, and later becoming listed on the stock exchange in Germany. In 2001, Sony Pictures Family Entertainment Group acquired 3.8% in BKN International.[1]
BKN International AG filed for insolvency in mid 2009[2] based on issues with income tax from 2007.[3] Commerzbank was to evaluate the possibility to sell BKN International AG's subsidiaries in Spain and Britain as well as its assets, especially the portfolio of film rights, in total or in part.[4] The bidding to acquire the assets started in February 2010 and over 20 companies contacted Commerzbank according to an article in Television Business International in early 2010. The interested parties included TV companies and potential financial investors from Europe, Asia and North America. The Commerzbank declined to estimate how much could be raised from the sale, but the process was expected to generate double-digit millions of Euros. In 2009 BKN International AG’s portfolio was valued by the independent consulting firm “Rinke Media Consult GmbH” at EUR 62.5 million.
In 2010 Cookie Jar Entertainment, took control of the 3rd party archive materials licensed by the company. All the main assets of the BKN Group were placed in the hands of the Administrator and thereafter acquired by Emba Media Management International (a Cyprus company).
