The B8 is a major highway in Kenya's Coast Province, connecting Mombasa to Garissa. The section between Mombasa and Malindi is popularly referred to as the Mombasa-Malindi road, whilst the section between Malindi and Garissa is popularly referred to as the Malindi-Garissa road.
The road employs a single-carriageway system that is subject to the country's national speed limit of 80 kilometres per hour (50 mph)[1]. In 2006, the Kenyan Government budgeted KSh2 billion (almost £16 million GBP in 2008[2]) to resurface the 113-kilometre (70 mi) section between Mombasa and Malindi, with two firms undertaking the project - each working on half of the road[3].
In Mombasa, the B8 road connects to two other major roads: the A109 (to Nairobi) and the A14 (towards the Tanzanian border). In Garissa, the B8 road meets the B3 leading to Nairobi and the Somalian border [4].
The following towns, listed from south towards north, are located along the highway:[4]
