Avaya Enterprise Switch Manager
Enterprise Switch Manager (ESM) in computer networking is the name of a GUI software program created by Avaya for configuration and management of Avaya enterprise products. The older versions of the software was named Optivity Switch Manager (OSM). ("Optivity" is a registered trade mark)
ESM is a Java based network management program that visualizes the network topology map and equipment.
History
Version 6.3.1 is the current release as of 08-Jan-2010. Earlier major releases included
- Version 6.3
- Versions 5.0 and newer are called ESM (renamed)
- Versions 1.0 to 4.1 were called Optivity Switch Manager (OSM)[1]
Functionality
The system has the functionality required for error management, including a trap receiver and a Syslog server. It includes a number of management tools:
- Avaya VLAN Manager a Java Network Management Application to centrally manage and configure VLAN information. It allows a manager to globally discover, view, and configure VLAN information on individual or multiple switches from a single interface.
- Avaya Multi-link Trunking Manager is a link aggregation manager. It provides the capability to centrally manage and configure MLT, SMLT and Link aggregation information. The application allows a manager to globally discover, view, and configure trunking and aggregation information on individual or multiple switches from a single interface.[2]
- Avaya Multicast Manager, which allows managers to globally discover, view, and configure multicast information on individual or multiple switches from a single interface.
- Avaya Device Manager also called "Java Device Manager" , which makes complex configurations very easy by allowing the user to point and click to change one or many configuration parameters that otherwise requires many command line entries.[3]
- Avaya Security Manager centrally manages access to device and network management functions on Ethernet Routing Switch 8000 series, Ethernet Routing Switch 55xx/35xx/45xx/25xx, Ethernet Switch, and Legacy BayStack devices. It can synchronize, change, and view passwords and security features for sccess via Command Line Interface (CLI) access, Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). Remote Access Dial-In User Services (RADIUS), and web Web. It includes management of access policies, SNMPv3 properties, and Shell (SSH) bulk password:[4]
- Avaya File and Inventory Manager allows uploading and downloading for network devices, and can support bulk uploads to multiple devices. Its Inventory function shows the hardware and software discovered on the network, including devices, chassis types, and installed blades. It shows serial and revision numbers, as well as image and configuration file names and versions
- Avaya Log Manager, a Java Network management application designed by Avaya to centrally receive SNMPv1 Traps, SNMPv3 Informs and Syslog messages
- Avaya Routing Managerconfigures routing parameters for devices across a network. It supports numerous protocols: IP routing, RIP, OSPF, ARP, VRRP. and provides for IPv6 Routing and IPv6 OSPF
For performance management, the system provides SNMP real time statistics and RMON statistics.
The system works jointly with Avaya Secure Network Access.
Additional functionality include visualization topology map and equipment interconnecting, general color coding of the indicated network management information, searching and finding MAC or IP addresses in the network, SNMP real time logging, Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) service, task scheduling, and the ability to locate file configurations that have not been saved,
