The seventh cycle of Australia's Next Top Model is an Australian reality television program which was broadcast on the Australian subscription television channel, FOX8. Cycle 7 began airing on 8 August 2011.[1]
The first destination this cycle was Paris, France, the second international destination was set in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The winner of the competition was seventeen year-old Montana Cox from Melbourne, Victoria. As her prizes, she received a modelling contract with Chic Model Management (agency of the first two cycles) ending the relationship with Priscilla's Model Management. Additionally, she received a cover and fashion spread in Harper's Bazaar Australia, twenty thousand dollars in cash from U By Kotex, a brand new Ford Fiesta, and an overseas trip to New York City to meet with NEXT Model Management.[2]
This is the last season of Australia's Next Top Model Sarah Murdoch hosted in the series. Murdoch left the show months after the cycle ended.[3]

Twenty semi-finalists were ultimately chosen out of 100 girls from across Australia. Sixteen contestants remained after the second episode, and stayed at their designated house in Sydney during the production between May, and August 2011.
The Contestants had to be aged 16 or over on 19 May 2011.
Those auditioning had to be at least 172 centimetres (68 in) tall. In Cycle 7, the producers were looking for a variety of models, including plus-size models.
To qualify, you had to be an Australian citizen currently living in Australia.
Additional requirements stated that a contestant could not have had previous experience as a model in a national campaign within the last five years, and if a contestant was represented by an agent or a manager, she had to terminate that representation prior to the competition.
Auditions for Cycle 7 were held on 23 January in Darwin, 27 January in Melbourne, 28 January in Adelaide, on 30 January in Perth, on 3 and 5 February in Sydney and on 12 February 2011 in Brisbane (delayed from 22 January due to the floods that devastated that city).

Following an exhaustive nation wide search and thousands of auditions, 100 girls made it to bootcamp. After three days of bootcamp, 20 girls advanced to a final round of casting, in which the final sixteen contestants would be selected. Upon their arrival, the girls were lined up to face Sarah and the judges. Dressed in swimwear, they had but one chance to impress the judges. There was an array of beauty and characters all vying for one thing: to be crowned Australia’s Next Top Model.
Before the end of day one however, the dream ended for 50 would-be models. After surviving the cull of the day before, the remaining 50 girls were told by Sarah that it was time to meet the "real them". They were told to Wipe off all of their make up, for a shoot that would test their inner confidence - showing themselves as they truly were.
After day two, another 20 girls were eliminated from the competition - leaving thirty girls fighting to be chosen for the next round. In the last day of bootcamp the remaining 30 girls were put to the test in an Alex Perry runway show, and ultimately ten more models were cut from the competition.
The end of this bootcamp episode came to a tantalizing climax, when the 20 remaining girls were told that all of them would be flown to Paris, France where the final sixteen would be selected.

The 20 contestants flew to Paris, for a chance to prove themselves and make it through to the final 16.
The models met Charlotte and headed to the top of the Eiffel Tower, where Alex Perry was waiting for them. The girls were split into groups of four per five for a styling challenge around Paris. There were four stores – GAP, H&M, Le Dressing De Brigitte and Come on Eileen Vintage, but they were allowed to go to – and the group that had the best ‘sense of style' would win the Challenge. In the end, Caroline, Madeline, Neo, Rachel and Sarah won and have an opportunity to meet supermodel Natalia Vodianova.
The next day, the models participated in a photoshoot at Vaux-le-Vicomte château in couture clothing.
Upon return to Australia, the top 20 faced for the first official elimination. Caroline, Neo and Izzy received universal praise for their strong couture photos. Rachel and Yolanda were also obtained on their photographs by the judges. Rachel's high fashion photo and warm personality earned her first call out but in the end, Sarah, Shannon, Lauren, and Georgia were eliminated, leaving Simone and the rest of the girls to become finalists for the competition.

The start of the Top 16. The girls arrive by luxury boat at a luxurious and expensive house. They are met by Charlotte on their own private beach.
Although they did well in the Alex Perry runway show they still require the most basic of modelling skills…walking. Top 16 models after the excitement of moving into their mansion head down to Nielsen Park, and claused to be met by Charlotte and celebrity choreographer & runway coach, Adam Williams. There they learn different styles of walk and emotions while retaining their balance and poise on wet sand.
The girls arrive at a luxurious house in Coogee and to be met by Josh who tells them that today they are walking in a runway show – but a show with a difference. They will we walking in a runway show but in a bubble! They will be walking on water in a zorb ball! How many models will manage to stay upright?
Early next morning Josh arrives at the house and tells the girls to meet him in the garden, there is someone that he wants them to meet. They will have their first official photo shoot since Paris but today they will be in swimwear but with buckets of cold water thrown over them! How does it feel to model swimwear in the middle of winter?
Upon judging, Sarah announced the prizes for the winner (see above). Yolanda, Izzy and Neo received universal praise for their editorial photos, but it was Hazel and Cassy's lackluster performances which sent them to the bottom two and in the end Hazel was deemed to have more potential thus Cassy who was the first finalist eliminated in the competition.

This week is all about Focus – don’t lose it or you could be going home!
The models start with a yoga lesson to help them learn how to focus. Miranda Kerr’s yoga instructor Charlotte Dodson takes them through some poses. Amelia gets to show how flexible she really is. Caroline pulls a muscle in her knee - Charlotte Dodson is not so sure - and does not participate much. When the girls get back to the house, gifts were waiting for them.
For this week's challenge the models must become live mannequins in the windows of David Jones, though the girls think they are there to shop. The girls must come up with five different poses and hold each pose for three minutes. Who can remain focused, even when Sarah Murdoch and supermodel Samantha Harris pop by? Hazel nearly faints and has to leave the stage. The winner of the challenge and a A$500 gift card to David Jones is Jess.
The photo shoot again tests the models ability to remain focused. The brief is ‘Lady Gaga’ in a coffin. The stylist for the photo shoot is InStyle Magazine's fashion editor Kelly Hume and the photographer is Jason Capobianco. Izzy is excited and even confesses during the photo shoot that her boyfriend has three coffins at his house. For Neo, a Sudanese refugee – this shoot is very confronting. She also has a disagreement with the stylist about wearing a wig.
During the elimination the judges are really happy with the pictures of Liz, Yolanda, Jess, Rachel, Amelia and Simone. Montana is also praised for giving a different - mysterious and sultry - expression, therefore showing improvement from last week. Neo delivered a great photo but was told her inability to take styling was getting in her way. However, Sarah says that there are a few they could possible send home today. Liz was called out first for being the only one who truly followed the brief. Eventually Tayah is sent home, because the judges thought her beauty did not translate into photos.

The girls receive a message from Sarah about trusting others around you. The girls are excited when they arrive at a trapeze school gymnasium and see Charlotte on a swing. Neo, Rachel, Madeline and Liz all struggled with the challenge as they are all afraid of heights. However, all girls managed and their peers praised them for their courage.
Charlotte announces that tomorrow, the girls will be having a make-over at Joh Bailey's salon. Madeline, Rachel and Izzy all had dramatic changes. However, they were pleased with their new look and during judging, they were praised for having adjusted to their hair. Annaleise was disappointed with her hair, even though there has not been much of a difference.
During judging, the panel praised Alissandra for her strong facial features. However, her body did not fit in a size 10 dress and the judges were worried about how this could affect her potential during photoshoots. The judges agreed that Neo had potential, but was only using her face and not her body.
Annaleise, Madeline and Liz all failed to impress the judges, but the stand-outs were Montana, Izzy, Amelia and Rachel. The judges were pleased that although she (Rachel) was not comfortable being in an exposed jacket during the shoot, she looked confident in her pictures.
Montana, Rachel, Simone, and Izzy had their pictures published in the Sunday Mail and were won on the judging panel. Neo, Annaliese and Alissandra found themselves in the bottom three, but Neo's stronger portfolio saved her from elimination, eliminating the other two contestants.

The girls are doing their morning chores during which what Simone says clearly irritates Neo. Then they receive Sarah mail, which says: "Life's a beach, but sometimes you have to roll with the punches."
The girls head to Bondi beach, where Charlotte and celebrity trainer Luke Hines from Bondi PT are waiting for them. Charlotte points out that keeping yourselves fit is very important, the difference between 15 mins of fame and maybe a life long career in modeling. Luke does not impress Caroline as she compares him to a Ken doll. The girls are instructed to form three lines of four, but the girls do not seem to know what that means. The girls have to do star jumps and sit-ups, but many girls - especially Rachel - are really uncoordinated and unfit. Next the girls are paired up for a running competition. The girls are really surprised how fast Neo is, even though according to them she only eats junk food and does not exercise. The run leads to surprises underneath buckets: coal, yellow rubber gloves, a scrubbing brush, an eye liner, a tea bag and a plastic bottle.
Next the girls go to Lux Studios. There Charlotte explains that models make a lot of money by representing or endorsing a brand. Today's challenge is for the girls to script a 30 second promo for their product. Rob Belgiovane, marketing executive from BWM, is introduced to critique the filmed ad. The two teams that win get to attend a relaunch of the Cartier boutique in an Alex Perry gown, wearing millions of dollars worth of Cartier jewellery. The first winners were representatives of coal, Caroline and Hazel, who's presentation was praised as being intelligent and believable with a great twist. Madeline and Rachel, representatives of a scrubbing brush, were the other winners of this challenge. They had a lot of information in the ad and a great delivery.
This week's photo shoot takes place at the historic grounds of Strickland House, where Josh is waiting for them. The girls will be shooting a national Blackmores campaign to promote and sell a new vitamin supplement for healthy hair, skin and nails. The photographer is Gabrielle Revere. She is looking for lots of natural energy and magic from the girls. It is freezing cold outside. Harper's Bazaar's Claudia Navone drops by during the shoot.
During elimination Alex Perry complains that Neo's picture is really ordinary, there's no energy and that her eyes are a bit glazed. Guest judge Gabrielle Revere says that Caroline's attitude is draining and no one wants to feel like the photographer is working for the model. Gabrielle Revere thinks Yolanda has limitations: "She can't do the natural stuff." Montana gets high praise during elimination. Gabrielle Revere even mentions that she could see her making it in New York. Montana is picked as the face of Blackmores campaign, Neo and Caroline had low call-outs, landing them in the bottom two and in a shocking elimination, both of them were sent home, despite being deemed front-runners in the early stages of the competition.

In Sarah mail Sarah congratulates the girls for making it to the top 10. She also reveals that the girls are heading to Kangaroo Island. Unfortunately, the girls find out in Sydney Airport that all flights to Adelaide are cancelled due to Chilean volcanic ash disrupted several flights around Australia. Charlotte informs the girls that she has organized something for them. They arrive at the Sydney Dance Company, where they learn about creating shapes inspired by nature. Their instructor is Tim Bishop, an indigenous dancer.
The next day, fortunately, the ash cloud clears and the girls are able to fly to Kangaroo Island. Upon arrival the girls were split up into groups, the challenge was for each one representing the nature of Kangaroo Island and were to recreate a fashion pose representing their nature.
Groups | Nature |
---|---|
Jess, Montana & Simone | Sea |
Hazel, Izzy & Madeline | Air |
Amelia, Liz, Rachel & Yolanda | Land |
Jess excelled, using her artistic talent to help recreate a great pose eventually being deemed the best group. The girls later checked into their hotel, where they were amazed with the views.
For their photoshoot, the models had to pose at the Remarkable rocks in tribal themed clothing. Rachel was first, she was told that she needed more energy but pulled it together in the end. Most of the girls excelled until the weather worsened causing Hazel and Madeline to pose in a cave, leaving the latter unhappy. Once returning to Sydney, the girls headed to judging. At panel, Hazel, Rachel & Izzy receive praise. Liz was told her picture was good but she needed more confidence while the rest of the girls received mixed criticism, but in the end Jess, Amelia and Yolanda fell into the bottom 3, all three was called out for not being versatile enough. Amelia was saved leaving Yolanda and Jess remaining. The judges felt that Jess had more capability of being versatile thus eliminating Yolanda who was sent packing despite receiving a first-call out only a few weeks ago.
