The worst of the riots occurred on 8th August 2011, where looting, arson and violence broke out in Battersea, Brixton, Bromley, Camden, Chingford Mount, Croydon, Ealing, East Ham, Hackney, Lewisham, Peckham, Stratford, Waltham Forest and Woolwich. The riots caused the irretrievable loss of heritage architecture. It was estimated that retailers lost at least 30,000 trading hours. As of 15 August, about 3,100 people had been arrested, of whom more than 1,000 had been charged. An estimated £200 million worth of property damage was incurred.
