Atalissa is a city in Muscatine County, Iowa, United States. The population was 283 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Muscatine Micropolitan Statistical Area.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 283 people, 113 households, and 80 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,119.8 people per square mile (840.5/km²). There were 120 housing units at an average density of 898.8 per square mile (356.4/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.94% White, and 1.06% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.41% of the population.

There were 113 households out of which 30.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.4% were married couples living together, 7.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.2% were non-families. 26.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.01.

In the city the population was spread out with 26.9% under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24, 30.0% from 25 to 44, 23.0% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.0 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $31,875, and the median income for a family was $43,929. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $24,583 for females. The per capita income for the city was $20,269. About 6.0% of families and 9.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 11.9% of those under the age of eighteen and 11.1% of those sixty five or over.
