Atalaya and Brookgreen Gardens is a historical site including the Atalaya Castle and a portion of Brookgreen Gardens, in South Carolina, United States. The area is associated with "the historical and artistic significance of Anna Hyatt Huntington" and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1992.[1][2]
The size of the landmarked area is 551 acres (2.23 km2) out of approximately 9,000 acres (36 km2) of Brookgreen Gardens, including the formal sculpture gardens but excluding "the natural landscape, wetlands, and the archaeological portions of the entire Brookgreen Garden area and the rest of the property owned by the Huntingtons".[2]
The two sites had been listed separately on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 and 1978, respectively.
