life:) is the third largest Ukrainian mobile telephone network operator, behind MTS Ukraine and Kyivstar, covering the territory where 97.2% of population lives.
The company is co-owned by Turkcell (55%) and Astelit Mobile Communications (45%), a subsidiary of SCM Holdings.
In January 2005 Astelit launched GSM-1800 service under the life:) brand, and has attracted 7.6 million contract and prepaid subscribers by December 2007. As for the Q3 2011, Ukrainian GSM operator life:) serves 9.3 million subscribers of prepaid, contract and corporate subscription. life:) network today covers the territory where 97.2% of population lives. Company provides roaming opportunities in 180 countries via more than 539 roaming partners.[1]
The operator was the first mobile network operator in Ukraine to introduce EDGE technology that offers high speed data transfer. Now the technology is enabled in 100% life:) network.
As of today, 10 life:) customer service centers and 212 exclusive shops operate in 108 cities of Ukraine. In addition, life:) subscribers can order life:) services through 117 branded points of sale and 47 382 GSM and non-GSM sales points throughout Ukraine.[2]
In 2007, life:) joined the UN Global Compact, as an initiative to encourage CSR (corporate social responsibility) practices by example. As a Compact signatory, life:) follows the 10 basic principles of human rights, labor standards, environmental protection and anti-corruption measures.
In June 2011, it was reported that Alfa Group was negotiating a deal to purchase the whole of Astelit's share in the company.[1]
