Association of Environmental & Engineering Geologists

The Association of Environmental & Engineering Geologists (AEG), (formerly "Association of Engineering Geologists") is the principal American association of professionals in the fields of Geotechnical engineering, Engineering geology, Soils engineering, Hydrological engineering, and Environmental geology. The association also includes Geologists, Civil engineers, Structural engineers, Ecologists, Petroleum engineers and others in fields relating to engineering geology and its effects on the environment.[1]

Notable members

C. Rexford Upp (Rex Upp) was president of the AEG in 2003. Upp holds numerous degrees, including a Ph.D. degree in Engineering Geology from Stanford University, an M.S. degree in Civil Engineering (Soil Mechanics and Foundations) from Stanford University, an M.S. in Watershed Management from Humbolt State University, a B.S. in Geology from Humbolt State University, a B.S. in Environmental Resources Engineering from Humbolt State University, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. Upp holds Professional California Licenses in numerous fields, including being a Registered Geologist (1981), Certified Engineering Geologist (1981), Certified Hydrologist (1995), Registered Civil Engineer (1983), and Registered Soils Engineer (1987). Upp was a GS 11 Geologist for the U.S. Geological Survey from 1979 to 1980. and was an instructor at Humbolt State University and San Jose State University.Upp has written on using junk science in the courts, instead of accepted principals in engineering geology, citing the case of controversial developer Eric Diesel, in which case Upp found that the proscution used "junk science" to prosecute Diesel, and the geological material Diesel was accused of generating did not exist on Diesel's property, but was dumped there by Cal Trans, not Diesel, verified by CBS News in 2007.[2][3][4][5]
