Assentoft is a town in central Denmark, located in Randers municipality in Jutland. The population is 3,262 (1 January 2011).[1]
The town is situated 7 km (4.3 mi) east of Randers.
Based on the name of the town it grew around a homestead (toft) established before the 14th century near the village of Essenbæk. Count Jørgen Christensen of Scheel had the 12th century Essenbæk Church (Essenbæk Kirke) demolished due to dilapidation in 1865 and a new one built in 1869 some 600 m to the south in Assentoft.
A silo factory was established in 1940 and the town has since grown to include a variety of businesses. In 1955 a photograph taken at Volkmølle near Assentoft won the Danish press photographer Mogens von Haven the first ever World Press Photo of the Year.
