Ask Sponsored Listings originally launched in August 2005 at as Ask Jeeves Sponsored Listings. The new service aimed to encourage advertisers to buy directly from Ask, instead of going through Google. [1][2]
Ask Sponsored Listings has a distribution network of over 100 premium online properties and services; some notable advertiser's using the service include cnet, Dogpile and match.com.[3]
Advertisers create listings and specify additional keywords to trigger their ads when, along with setting the maximum amount they’re willing to pay per click. The listings include the ad itself, a title and a URL. The campaign is then added to the Ask Sponsored Listings network. When a user searches for a particular item, topic, or service, ads most relevant to those particular search terms will then be displayed as sponsored links within the results.[4]
