Asif Ali Malik is married to the sister of PML-N stalwart Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan. Therefore he is additional secretary general of PML-N Punjab.
Born on June 8, 1948 at Dhulian, Asif Ali Malik is permanently settled in Bahria town Rawalpindi.
After getting his early education at Public School, Abbottabad, he was admitted to the Government College, Lahore, from where he got BA degree before earning an LLB degree from the University Law College, Lahore.
Asif Ali Malik, who remained involved in the sports like cricket and hockey in early days of his life, wanted to become a lawyer and he achieved this goal. He is inspired by the leadership of Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, the twice-elected prime minister of Pakistan. Besides politics, he is also involved in the agriculture.
He started political activities in 1979 from the local level. He was elected as member of the local union council in 1988 before being elected to the Attock District Council in 1991, with the help of major political personalities of the region, since people did not know him.
Asif Ali Malik emerged on the horizon of national politics by joining the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) with the support of Chaudhary Nisar and contested election for a Punjab Assembly seat on its ticket from PP-15 (now PP-18) in 1993 but could not succeed.
Since he is Chaudhary Nisar's brother-in-law he became additional secretary general of PML-N Punjab. Asif Ali Malik was elected to the Punjab Assembly from PP-15 on PML-N ticket in 1997 general elections and served as parliamentary secretary.
Asif Ali Malik contested in the 2008 elections from NA-59 (Attock-III) but lost misribly with only 23,634 votes out of 263,849 registered votes. Whereas SARDAR SALIM HAIDER of Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians won the election.
Club cricket and walk are his favourite pastimes while he likes to read books on literature and current affairs and likes poetry of Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Habib Jalib and Sahir Ludhianvi. In Fatehjang(Attock III) he is famous for a slogan, "ei taa hogaya hor daso --- malik asif ithow naso"
He is known for his famous phrase " This work is done, tell me something else". And is mocked around locally that he has never done what he promises.
