Aryaka is a technology company that provides cloud-based WAN optimization and application acceleration services. The company is headquartered in Milpitas, California with development offices in Bangalore, India and has 100+ employees.[1]

Aryaka was founded in November 2008 by Ajit Gupta, Rajeev Bharadhwaj and Ashwath Nagaraj. Ajit Gupta previously founded Speedera Networks, a Content Delivery Network (CDN) acquired by Akamai Technologies in 2005 for a stock transaction valued at $500 million.[2] Ashwath Nagaraj was previously founder, CTO and Vice-President of Engineering at Allegro Systems (acquired by Cisco in 2001 for $185 million)[3] and founder of Assured Access Technologies (acquired by Alcatel in 1999 for $350 million).[4]

Aryaka launched its cloud-based WAN optimization and application acceleration service in September 2010. It also announced that it had received $14 million USD in Series A funding from Trinity Ventures, Mohr Davidow Ventures, and Nexus Venture Partners.[5] Aryaka was named a 2011 ‘Cool Vendor’ in ‘Enterprise Communications and Network Services’ by Gartner Inc.[6] and also named by GigaOM to the 'Structure 50', a list of the 'Top 50 Cloud Innovators'.[7]

In June 2011, Aryaka confirmed news that it raised $15 million USD in Series B funding. The funding round was led by Nexus Venture Partners, with participation from Trinity Ventures and Mohr Davidow Ventures.[8]

WAN Optimization Service

Aryaka offers WAN Optimization and application acceleration as a service using a cloud-based model. The company uses a globally-deployed private network with multiple Points-of-Presence (POPs) in the cloud to offer its services. These POPs are servers placed in datacenters worldwide connected with a private network. Customers connect to the nearest POP and customer traffic is transmitted over this private network to the other end, closest to the customer’s branch location. In this way, the company avoids having to deploy WAN Optimization hardware at each customer location.[9]

Aryaka also provides network visibility using a web-based customer portal called ‘MyAryaka’, enabling customers to track the performance and availability of their network and applications.[10]

The Aryaka WAN Optimization service is a Software as a Service (SaaS) subscription model.

Application Acceleration Component

Aryaka’s application acceleration sits as a layer on top of the WAN Optimization service. In addition to WAN Optimization technology, the network contains application-specific optimizations for common Internet file system (CIFS), messaging application programming interface (MAPI), and file transfer protocol (FTP).[11] Application performance is improved with the use of these application proxies.
