The Amanayé (Amanayé or Ararandeura) are a Native South American nation of Brazil's Amazonia. Sedentary farmers, hunters and gatherers, they speak Tupí. They frequently relocate villages as their soil becomes exhausted, and possibly also to avoid their enemies. The Amanyé were first contacted in 1755, they tended to avoid white missionaries. Despite this, most disappeared into the Mestizo population in the 20th century. A group numbering up to 66 remained in 1995.
