Anthiyur (also spelt as Andhiyur or Andiyur) is a panchayat town in Erode district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India.

Anthiyur is a small town in Tamil Nadu, India in Erode district. It is a beautiful town surrounded by mountains. It is famous for the forest nearby.It is located somewhat in between Gobichettipalayam and Bhavani.The travel time to Gobi is 45 mins(22 kms) ,Bhavani is 30 Mins(19 kms) and Erode is 1 hour(30 kms).
Anthiyur is famous for Bettal leaves and Textile garments like lungi,towels etc.It also has one of biggest weekly market (santhai) in tamilnadu which assembles every week monday.
The temperature is moderate throughout the year except during summer. Rainfall is moderate to high, uncertain and not well distributed. It is warm for most of the year. The city is not windy but the abundance of trees and vegetation surrounding the city makes its climate pleasant.
Anthiyur cuisine is predominantly south Indian with rice as its base. Most locals still retain their rural tradition, with many restaurants still serving food on a banana leaf. North Indian, Chinese and continental cuisines are also available. Mysorepa (a sweet made from lentil flour and Halwa (a sweet made of different ingredients like milk, wheat, rice) are famous. Idly, Dosa, vada-sambar and Biryani are apopular among the locals. Coffee shops and Chat Centres have been on the increase, and serve as meeting places for young people.
The people of Anthiyur are generally regarded as warm and hospitable. There are a significant numbers of people from other cultures like North Indians, Gurkas and Malayalis.

Varattupallam dam is located at This dam is located 12 km from Anthiyur, just below the mountains. During summer evenings elephants can be seen around the dam. Adjacent to this dam is a mountain road that ends at Mysore, in the state of Karnataka.
An Anaicut namely “Kodiveri Anaicut” is situated in Gobichettipalayam Taluk, about 15 km. west of Gobichettipalayam. It was constructed by the Maharaja of Mysore in the 17th century. Two channels arise from the dam, One is on the northern side of Bhavani River and the other on the southern side viz “Arakkan Kottai Channel” and “Thadapalli Channel” respectively. Lands north of Gobichettipalayam City are fertile due to the flow of the Thadapalli channel. Cultivation of sugarcane and paddy are predominant in this area.The lush green fields are also a pleasure to watch.
Another important dam that has been constructed over the Bhavani River is the Bhavanisagar Dam. It is located about 40 km from anthiyur. Buses ply from Anthiyur to Sathy every 1.5 hrs interval and need to change bus agin in Sathy to dam.The dam was constructed in the beginning of the 20th century. There is a large park with various attractions. The dam and the park attract huge crowds towards this place.
The reserve forests of Anthiyur areas has Abundant flora and fauna thrive in these forests which form a part of the rich biosphere of the Western Ghats. The wildlife includes Indian Elephant, Bengal Tiger, Indian Leopard, Black Buck, Spotted deer, Peacock, Porcupine and Gaur. It is one of the largest elephant habitats in the country.
Anthiyur city is well connected by major roads passing through the center of the city. One connecting Anthiyur with Gobichettipalayam MDR, via: Athani (Tamil Nadu)),another connecting Sathyamangalam via Athani (Tamil Nadu)) ,another connecting Erode via Bhavani and another connecting Mysore via Burgur not the one near dharmapuri which Jayalalith won .
The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) has a depot apart from a large central bus stand in Anthiyur. Originally called as Jeeva Transport Corporation (JTC), it came into being by bifurcation of the Cheran Transport Corporation (headquartered at Coimbatore). It was renamed as Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Erode Limited (Coimbatore Division-II) on 1 July 1997.
The nearest Railway station is Erode Junction(32 km), which is a major Railway station from where trains ply to all over the country. A railway line has been proposed for Mysore (via Gobichettipalayam, Chamarajnagar). The railway line was proposed during the British rule in 1922 and survey was made 4 times but it failed to materialize.
The Palani-Chamrajnagar railway line scheme was proposed in 1915 and initially it was decided to lay railway line from Palani to Chamrajnagar via Kangeyam, Erode, Gobichettipalayam, Sathyamangalam and Chamrajnagar. The then British Railway conducted surveys in 1922, 1936 and 1942 and survey stones were also laid on the proposed railway line. But after Independence the scheme did not take off. But till date, nothing had been done on the Erode-Gobichettipalayam-Sathyamangalam railway line work. For introduction of the scheme it required a minimum Rs. 500 crore and the amount may be sanctioned immediately.
The nearest airport is Salem International Airport (65 km). But the most connectivity airport is Coimbatore International Airport (100 km)which has regular ( Air timings) flights from/to New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kozhikode, Chennai, Cochin, Hyderabad ,Thiruvananthapuram, Jammu, Pune, New Delhi, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Bahrain, Jeddah, Kuwait, Muscat, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Colombo, Dubai, Doha, Singapore, etc.

This is one of the oldest temples in Tamil Nadu. Every year, in April during the festival more than 100,000 people gather at this temple. This festival has been celebrated for 2 weeks every year where a 'Fire Walking Ceremony' (Kundam)is held during January every year. The annual Temple Car festival is celebrated with grandeur. The temple is about 1500 years old.This temple attracts a large gathering from the surrounding places all the time. The people of this locality usually ask the Goddess for permission via a special ceremony, before starting any job. People believe that this is one of the most powerful temples in India
This is one of the oldest temples in Tamil Nadu. Lord Sri Kamatchi, Sri Perumal and Sri Gurunatha swami are the three lords staying in the temple. The temple is located in Pudupalayam near Anthiyur. A festival which is celebrated every year during August 15 is very famous. The cattle market during this festival is well-known all over India. People sell horses, cows, and goats during this festival and more than 500,000 people gather at this temple. Some of the horses are sold for more than 150,000 Rs. People even come from northern part of India to sell and buy cattle.In this year (2011) Festival celebrate on August-10 (Wednesday) to 15 (Sunday).
This is one of the oldest temple. The Goddess Angaalaparameshwari also called as Angam Alum Parameshwari. "Angam" means Soul. "Alum" means who controls. "Parameshwari" is the name of the Goddess. It is said that she "Angaalamman" controls the Lord Shiva.The festival is conducted once in 5 years during Shiv Rathri for a period of 1 week which attracts a large mass of people.
This is one of the oldest temples in Tamil Nadu. Every year, in April during the festival more than 1,000 people gather at this temple. This temple is located in near forest area and has good scenic view and walkable distance to some small waterfalls formed when rain water flows from mountain to plains.Buses/Mini bused operated from Anthiyur Bus stand to this place daily.
Anthiyur stands as a major Education hub of the state. But colleges are less in this area. The proximity to Gobichettipalayam and Erode solves this problem.
Anthiyur has Canara Bank and South Indian bank branches alone for long time and recently opening of karur vysa bank,Indian Overseas Bank,State Bank of India and Axis Bank shows anthiyur is growing.

Andhiyur was listed as a "Constituency for the Reserved" by M. G. Ramachandran in 1977, who was the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu state. The last Member of Legislative Assembly(MLA) before this announcement was E.M.Natarajan (1968-1978 as MLA) from Ennamangalam[3] from Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Party.
